The month of June has been absolutely wonderful! I've not read as many books as I had in May, however, most of the books I've read were worthy of 5 stars.
I've dipped my toes into the world of sci-fi, it was a huge step for me since I've always stayed comfortable in the land of Fantasy. I've also read and reviewed a poem collection, which was something different too.
Here are the books I've read in June, in no particular order.
1. NIMBUS by A.C. Miller
You can read my review of it here.
3. Beyond the Ocean Blue by A.G. Smith
4. Girl Empowernment by Hunyah Irfan
5. Eagle Shield by Carl Lakeland

Here are the books I've read in June, in no particular order.
1. NIMBUS by A.C. Miller
The storyline of NIMBUS has captivated me from the start. Over in the land of Nimbus, 14 year-olds are separated from their families for 11 years to live outside the wall. Every day, kids are fighting for their lives, suffering to find food and shelter. They were kicked out without any skills to defend themselves. Only the strong ones can survive.
The writing was consistent, never had there been a moment that was boring. Every character faced their portion of pain and suffering but continued to motivate one another, which I find really heartwarming. Be prepared for many plot twists and unexpected events as Nimbus will surely be full of surprises.

2. Gold Shadow by L.C. Perry
In my opinion, it was the characters that really absorbed me into reading the story. I loved the diversity of characters, their personalities, the way they interact with one another among the slaves or the rebels or the slaves and the rebels.
The plot was also very unique. Meet Ebony, a slave who has hardened her heart in order to survive in a cruel environment all her life. She've witnessed death, killed as well as been chained in her 18 years of being a slave. Just by luck, she crossed paths with rebels from the surface and now she is escaping with her companions to join the rebellion against the monarchy.
3. Beyond the Ocean Blue by A.G. Smith
My first ever sci-fi book which has sparked an interest in me to venture out more into the world of sci-fi.
The blurb didn't give much away, which made the book seemed like an enigma. The story was decent. Some parts were boring and I just scrolled past it, some parts were interesting. Half the time I was confused. I didn't feel any connection to the characters, there was nothing to make me want to continue reading this. It was disappointing, especially since the other reviews said such wonderful things about it.
4. Girl Empowernment by Hunyah Irfan
Another genre that I don't often read - Poetry! This was a short collection of poems that was an incredibly quick read centred around empowering women.
As for a topic like this, I would've expected something more. It requires a few more reads to find out if there's more to this than it meets the eye. Overall, it was a little disappointing.
You can read my review of it here.
A fast-paced spy novel, an absolutely intriguing read. The mission requires Nathan to protect and raise Angel, who is hunted down by the enemies as she possesses a special gift - one that can potentially eradicate the human kind. Who would've thought that a spy like him could care for her like she was his child? And it was then, when he showed weakness, that everything went wrong.
I absolutely loved the supporting characters in the book. Little would you expect even those with the littlest mention would play such a huge role in this book. You'd better stay on your toes because Eagle Shield is not something you'd expect.

I'm excited about what awaits me in the upcoming month. I do expect to read fewer books since my mid-sems are coming up. In the meantime, I am currently reading a brilliant Whitbread Award Winner novel and I'm thrilled to write a review about it!
Till then!

You've now given me a list of books to check out and maybe add to my Too-Large-TBR, lol. Five books is a good amount, there've been times where I only read two books in a whole month!
ReplyDeleteThat's totally alright! I believe you should read a book at your own pace. I had deadlines for these 5 books so I had to force myself to find time to read it, usually trying to finish within the last 14 days. As for my TBR, I've been neglecting the books from my own collection for a few months now yikes!
